Eight years after Family Island residents were given the instruments to run their own affairs, the process of local government in Freeport is said to be under serious threat by people intent on manipulating the process in direct contravention of the law.

\nThis is the concern of Marva Moxey, who was elected to the City of Freeport Council for the Lucaya constituency on July 2, 2002.
\n
\nWith two different local government councils allegedly in place, the Freeport Chief Council is calling on Prime Minister Perry Christie to intervene in the matter.
\n
\nAddressing the press under the fig tree in front of the Supreme Court building on Sunday Mrs. Moxey claimed that the minister responsible for the local government, Alfred Gray, had failed to bring the matter to a speedy conclusion.
\n
\n“The minister’s failure to act has led to anarchy and lawlessness,” she said.
