Miami, July 12, 2004 \uff96 FedEx Express, subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), announced Friday the opening of its newest facility \uff96 the Miami Gateway Hub. \uffa0Located at 6100 NW 36th St., the new $50 million facility will not only serve the growing South Florida market, but will significantly enhance the company\uffb4s connectivity to Latin America and the Caribbean. <\/P><\/p>\n

According to the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s official economic development partnership, global trade is already one of Miami-Dade’s largest business sectors, exceeding $50 billion since 2002. \uffa0Miami receives nearly 80 percent of U.S. air imports from Latin America and the Caribbean, and is proving to be at the crossroads of Asian and European trade routes as well, with more than 1,200 multinational corporations in the area. <\/P><\/p>\n
The FedEx Gateway Hub will sort up to 6,000 packages per hour or 40,000 packages a day. Approximately 145,000 square feet of warehouse and office space sits on 23 acres of land at the Miami International Airport. \uffa0The hub will also include refrigerated storage space for agricultural products, such as produce and flowers, and a 1,000 square foot cooler system.<\/P><\/p>\n
The facility will also house a Bonded Warehouse including onsite Miami Customs Clearance agents to quickly and efficiently process Miami imports. \uffa0According to the Beacon Council, 54 percent of all U.S. trade with Central America flows through Miami, 40 percent of the Caribbean trade and 34 percent of its trade with South America.<\/P><\/p>\n
The FedEx integrated air-ground network will serve the South Florida and Latin American and Caribbean markets with four daily inbound and outbound flights, connecting the world via Miami to Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, The Bahamas, Panama, Ecuador, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Haiti, Jamaica, The Cayman Islands and Belize.<\/P><\/p>\n
