Hurricane Frances’ damage to the Bahamas could amount to an “astronomical figure in the hbundreds of millions of dollars,” Prime Minister Perry Christie predicted yesterday.

\nMr. Christie was speakng at the VIP Lounge of the Nassau International Airport on the departure of Turks and Caicos chief minister Michael Missick, who toured Grand Bahama with the prime minister, MP’s and Senators all day Saturday.

\nHe said that while the government is moving with all deliberate speed to restore life for the Bahamians in the areas affected by the hurricane, “our tour through the settlements of West End and Eight Mile Rock and the resdiential community of Hawkesbill has shown us that tremendous struggles remain.”
\n
\n“Yes, tremendous struggles remain,” said Mr. Christie. “It now seems that upon our deeper assessments coming in, the combination of damage to public infrastructure and personal loss could very well amount to an astronomical figure in the hundreds of millions of dollars.”

\n“We remain thankful that here in the Bahamas our own loss of life has been limited to two.”
