{"id":245900,"date":"2004-10-06T11:48:07","date_gmt":"2004-10-06T15:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2004\/10\/nassau-damage-rating-alarms-tourism-industry"},"modified":"2004-10-06T11:48:07","modified_gmt":"2004-10-06T15:48:07","slug":"nassau-damage-rating-alarms-tourism-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2004\/10\/nassau-damage-rating-alarms-tourism-industry","title":{"rendered":"Nassau &#39;Damage&#39; Rating Alarms Tourism Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tourism executives and economists yesterday said they were &#8220;amazed&#8221; and &#8220;startled&#8221; by a survey that found travellers believed Nassau\/Paradise Island had suffered more &#8220;extreme&#8221; damage from hurricanes than the Cayman Islands, which faced the full brunt of Hurricane Ivan.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nThe <a href=http:\/\/home.businesswire.com\/portal\/site\/google\/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&#038;newsId=20041004006121&#038;newsLang=en>Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown &#038; Russell (YPB&#038;R) study<\/a> found that 28 per cent of respondents believed Nassau\/Paradise Island had suffered &#8220;extreme&#8221; damage from Frances and Jeanne, but only 27 per cent felt Cayman had suffered extreme damage from Ivan.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nCompounding concerns for the tourism industry&#8217;s short-term performance, the study found that between 20-25 per cent of respondents indicated they were &#8220;less likely&#8221; to visit the Bahamas and the Caribbean prior to 2004 year-end.
