Last night Works minister Bradley Roberts announced that he had voluntarily presented himself to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and “submitted to a full and frank interview in response to the allegation” of rape.

\nMr. Roberts acknowledged that the matter atttracted much media attention. And so “to bring quick resolution to the sad state of affairs and to bring relief to the discomfort caused to my family, colleagues, constituents and friends,” he voluntarily presented himself yesterday afternoon to the CDU for questioning.
\n
\nHe reiterated that the allegation was without merit. “I am confident,” he said, “that I will be exonerated”.
\n
\nEarlier yesterday protesters from the FNM Action Group gathered in Rawson Square demanding that both Mr. Roberts and Minister of National Security Cynthia Pratt be sacked from their government positions.
\n
\nThe demonstrators were protesting following allegations that Cabinet Minister Roberts had raped a woman in her Marathon home on December 4.
\n
\nThe married MP “categorically” denied the claim and told The Tribune last week that he was soliciting legal assistance in the matter.
\n
\nWallace Rolle, the lawyer for the woman accusing Mr. Roberts of rape, said in an interview with The Tribune yesterday that neither he nor his client has any desire to see the matter approached from a civil angle.

\n“We are pushing the matter on a criminal basis and it is vital that the police investigate it as such,” he said.
