The Bahamas recorded its first murder victim for the new year with the death of Brian Cephus Sands who was shot in Nasssau.

\nMr. Sands was shot off Baillou Hill Road shortly before 9pm.
\nInspector Evans told The Tribune yesterday that Mr. Sands was standing around with other men on Sunshine Park, when they were approached and attacked by two men, one of whom had a handgun.

The group fled when shots were fired, police said.
\n
\nPolice are following some leads into the matter, according to Inspector Evans.
\n
\nOne of the men in the group with Mr. Sands when he was fatally shot spoke with The Tribune yesterday.
\n
\nSpeaking on conditiuon of anonymity, he said that one of the gunmen approached a Rastafarian in the group and began taunting him.
\n
A resident in the area, who did not wish to give her name, said the neighbourhood was “in an uproar ” foloowing the shooting.
