The Grand Bahama Human Rights Association (GBHRA) said the act should guarantee easy access to a tribunal invested with powers of redress with regard to any violation of human rights.<\/P>

The GBHRA claims the legislation is needed urgently to “arrest racism and anti-foreign discriminatory attitudes developing in certain parts of the public service”.<\/P>

Several reports have recently been made to the GBHRA which portend a sinister culture of discrimination and anti-foreignerer attitude which has colored the treatment of both white Bahamians and foreigners in the Bahamas,” said a spokesman for the organisation.<\/P>

The FNM government promised to appoint a human rights ombudsman, but did not do so during their 10-year term.<\/P>
