The 422 room, 80 million dollar hotel`s construction was pivotal in a 20-point plan, drafted and agreed upon by activists, city officials and lodging executives that ended the Black tourism boycott of Miami in 1993. It represents a new era in the $545 billion U.S. travel industry and direction of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators &#038; Developers (NABHOOD) whose mission is to increase the number of African American owned hotels, breaking the glass ceiling in the executive suite and increasing minority suppliers to the industry. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The theme this year is &#8220;Working Together, Changing The Industry&#8221;.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The Summit is designed to educate attendees on how to market to minorities; develop hotel partnerships; explore ownership &#038; franchise opportunities; share minority travel trends and look at diversity issues affecting the industry. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>General Sessions, workshops and seminars will spark discussion on multicultural tourism, employment, marketing, supplier opportunities, financing and African American hotel development &#038; ownership. The summit opens with a Golf Tournament on Wednesday morning, followed by our new Minority Hotel Owners Training Program, committee meetings and Opening Tropical Reception in the evening. General Sessions &#038; workshops will be held Thursday through Saturday, the Trade Show on Thursday, Nabhood Corporate Suite appointments on Friday and a College &#038; Career Fair with our Youth Program will take place on Saturday.
