{"id":247157,"date":"2005-06-09T10:43:28","date_gmt":"2005-06-09T14:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/06\/police-charged-with-dangerous-driving-in-mortimer%ef%be%92s-death"},"modified":"2005-06-09T10:43:28","modified_gmt":"2005-06-09T14:43:28","slug":"police-charged-with-dangerous-driving-in-mortimer%ef%be%92s-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/06\/police-charged-with-dangerous-driving-in-mortimer%ef%be%92s-death","title":{"rendered":"Police Charged With Dangerous Driving In Mortimer\uff92s Death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The police officer whose dangerous driving caused the death of Lester Mortimer several weeks ago was arraigned in court on Wednesday.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Terrance Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge of dangerous driving.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>According to court documents, around 9pm on Saturday April 16, Thompson was driving east along West Bay Street in a manner that was dangerous to the public, resulting in the death of Mr. Mortimer, the proprietor of Mortimer\uffb4s Candy Kitchen on East Street.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Magistrate Renee McKay ordered Thompson to pay a $10,000 fine or spend one-year in prison. He opted to pay the fine. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>It\uffb4s now up to the Commissioner of Police Paul Farquharson to decide whether he still has a position on the Royal Bahamas Police Force.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The commissioner told The Bahama Journal on Wednesday that once a review of the officer\uffb4s file and court transcripts is complete, that decision will be made.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><SMALL>The Bahama Journal<\/SMALL><\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Magistrate orders Officer Thompson to pay a $10,000 fine or spend a year in jail.
