A man accused of committing a murder four years ago was behind bars over the weekend, in connection with another murder, police said.<\/p>\n
Omar Penn, 25, of #25 Tasman Close, Freeport was arraigned in the Eight Mile Rock Magistrate Court. <\/p>\n
The prosecution is alleging that sometime around 10:30pm on Monday, June 6, Penn “being concerned with others, by means of unlawful harm did intentionally and unlawfully cause the death of Charles Tameiko Grant.”<\/p>\n
Grant, 26, of Pinedale was reportedly inside his home when a relative summoned him outside to meet with a man who wanted to purchase Grant’s vehicle, a white Buick. <\/p>\n
As the victim stepped outside into the yard, the would-be buyer reportedly confronted him, speaking a few words, before pulling out a handgun and firing several shots at point blank range, according to police reports.<\/p>\n
Grant was shot several times in the face and chest. <\/p>\n
Penn, who is also known as “Punch”, is facing another charge, that of possession of a firearm with the intent to “endanger life,” according to court dockets. I<\/p>\n
At the time of the incident the accused was on bail on another murder charge. <\/p>\n
Typically, bail is not granted to those accused of murder.<\/p>\n
It is alleged that on May 17, 2001, Penn fatally shot Rafford Smith of Inagua Place, Hawksbill. <\/p>\n
The first shooting occurred in the Club Rock parking lot, at the International Bazaar. <\/p>\n
On Friday, Magistrate Debbye Ferguson informed the accused that he was not required to enter a plea to the murder and the weapon charges. A preliminary inquiry into Grant’s shooting death is set for September 29. <\/p>\n
Penn was remanded into custody at Her Majesty’s Prison, Fox Hill.<\/p>\n
