{"id":24719,"date":"2012-08-16T08:05:37","date_gmt":"2012-08-16T12:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=24719"},"modified":"2012-08-21T09:41:28","modified_gmt":"2012-08-21T13:41:28","slug":"nine-bahamians-awarded-scholarships-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/08\/nine-bahamians-awarded-scholarships-in-china","title":{"rendered":"Nine Bahamians Awarded Scholarships In China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24720\" title=\"mitchell-china\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mitchell-china.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mitchell-china.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mitchell-china-150x69.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mitchell-china-250x115.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/>NASSAU, The Bahamas \u2013 Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Fred Mitchell encouraged the nine Bahamians who received scholarship to study in China to be good ambassadors for this country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expect that you will ably represent The Bahamas while in China and portray all that is good about our Bahamas, its people, its culture and its tradition,\u201d Mr. Mitchell said as he addressed the scholarship awards ceremony in the conference at the Immigration Department on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Also present were His Excellency Hu Shan, Ambassador of the People\u2019s Republic of China to The Bahamas; officials from both governments and family members of the awardees.<\/p>\n<p>The recipients and their areas of study are Rasheed Robinson \u2013 Bachelor\u2019s degree in Clinical Medicine and Sanay Collie, Bachelor\u2019s degree in Finance. At the Master\u2019s degree level are Daron Beneby, International Trade; Robert McKenzie, Enterprise Management; Prince Moss, Educational Leadership &amp; Policy; Denise Farquharson, Educational Leadership &amp; Policy; Lynn Gibson, Public Administration in Chinese Governance; Kathryn Campbell, International Communication and Betty Vedrine, International Communication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis group represents the broad spectrum of talent and the ever-growing potential of our people. These persons are an inspiration, choosing as they have, to study in a country vastly different from their own and to learn another language,\u201d Mr. Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<p>To date, 37 Bahamians have received full scholarships through the programme sponsored by the People\u2019s Republic of China, plus the nine, bringing the total to 46.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship programme is in keeping with diplomatic relations established between The Bahamas and China in May 1997.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince then, the Government of China continues to demonstrate its friendship for the Bahamian people by its offering of scholarships to Bahamian students to pursue higher education in China at the Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s levels in a range of disciplines from manufacturing and design of clothing and apparel, to medicine, astrophysics\/astronomy, international business management, marketing, Chinese culture and language and architecture,\u201d Mr. Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier recipients, having completed their studies are contributing to the growth and development of The Bahamas, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He advised the new recipients that staff of The Bahamas Embassy in Beijing stand ready to assist them as they join the cadre of Bahamians already in China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that you will be good ambassadors for our country. Take full advantage of this opportunity to learn all that you can; become fluent in the Chinese language; it is the language of the fast growing economy in the world.
