Lewis Yard man listed as critical after being shot. <\/P><\/p>\n
Officers from the Central Detective Unit (CDU) have launched an island-wide search for the man believed responsible for a near fatal shooting of Patrick Russell. <\/P><\/p>\n
Russell, 36, of Lewis Yard, is listed in critical, but stable condition at the Rand Memorial Hospital. <\/P><\/p>\n
Police say that around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, an anonymous caller contacted the police control room and reported hearing several gunshots in the area of a popular liquor store in Lewis Yard. <\/P><\/p>\n
Several patrol cars were immediately dispatched to the scene, but while en route, the officers received additional information of someone being injured as a result of the shooting. <\/P><\/p>\n
Arriving minutes later, the officers discovered Russell laying on the ground with bullet wounds to the upper chest and right leg. <\/P><\/p>\n
Conscious and able to speak with the police, Russell told the officers that while walking in the area of the liquor store, a man armed with a handgun approached him and fired three shots. <\/P><\/p>\n
The shooter fled the scene leaving Russell, crumpled on the ground bleeding profusely. <\/P><\/p>\n
Russell was treated on the scene before being rushed to the emergency section of the Rand Memorial Hospital by ambulance. <\/P><\/p>\n
A female resident said she heard several gunshots, “but I didn’t see anything suspicious.” <\/P><\/p>\n
She noted that there were some men hanging around the liquor store, which is usual, but “there was nothing out of the ordinary.” <\/P><\/p>\n
Residents in the neighbouring vicinity milled about as police conducted preliminary investigations; however, many declined an interview with the media. <\/P><\/p>\n
CDU officers are continuing investigations into this matter.<\/P><\/p>\n
