A Bahamas Court of Appeal judge is lying seriously ill in a Miami hospital is at the centre of an embarrassing financial wrangle over his treatment.<\/P><\/p>\n
The health insurance provided by his contract with the government has now run out, according to well-placed sources, putting him in urgent need of specialist treatment in the UK, which would involve a $160,000 transfer by air ambulance from Miami to London.<\/P><\/p>\n
The plight of Justice Maurica Churaman, a British national of Guyanese descent, was discussed by Cabinet last week.<\/P><\/p>\n
It is understood that ministers and senior government officials are in a quandary over what to do next as Justice Churaman lies paralysed by a stroke in Jackson Memorial Hospital.<\/P><\/p>\n
There has been a request for his family to have him returned to the Uk where he get the necessary medical attention.<\/P><\/p>\n
However, government is in a bind as to whether or not it can legally do more than it already has.<\/P><\/p>\n
