{"id":247687,"date":"2005-09-07T11:47:20","date_gmt":"2005-09-07T15:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/09\/bay-street-eyesore-damaging-tourism-industry"},"modified":"2005-09-07T11:47:20","modified_gmt":"2005-09-07T15:47:20","slug":"bay-street-eyesore-damaging-tourism-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/09\/bay-street-eyesore-damaging-tourism-industry","title":{"rendered":"Bay Street Eyesore Damaging Tourism Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>Bay Street merchants are complaining that the most valuable sector of the tourism industry is being affected by the eyesore that is the northern section of the Churchill building.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>More than three million cruise ship passengers arrive in the Nassau Harbour every year &#8211; more than half the total number of tourists visiting the country &#8211; and every one of them is greeted by a scene of dilapidation and disrepair.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>This is the opinion of several persons who work around the Churchill building, one of the Bahamas&#8217; most important government facilities.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>One shopkeeper toldd The Tribune, &#8220;I think that it is disgusting that the first thing passengers see after coming out of that nice Welcome Centre they spent so much money on, is a government building that is in such terrible shape.&#8221;<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>&#8220;It&#8217;s incredible to think that this is a tourist destination.
