{"id":247704,"date":"2005-09-09T10:09:10","date_gmt":"2005-09-09T14:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/09\/elderly-woman-killed-in-car-crash"},"modified":"2005-09-09T10:09:10","modified_gmt":"2005-09-09T14:09:10","slug":"elderly-woman-killed-in-car-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/09\/elderly-woman-killed-in-car-crash","title":{"rendered":"Elderly Woman Killed In Car Crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FREEPORT, Grand Bahama   &#8211; A 94-year-old woman became the island&#8217;s 14th traffic fatality this week, prompting police to reiterate stern traffic warnings as the death occurred just two days after an East Grand Bahama man was killed in a car crash.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Armilda Laing succumbed to serious injuries she sustained when the vehicle she was a passenger in collided with another car at the intersection of East Sunrise Highway and Balao Road.<\/p>\n<p>Police said speed was the main factor in the crash which was the latest in a series of fatal car accidents on East Sunrise Highway &#8211; one of the island&#8217;s major thoroughfares.<\/p>\n<p>At about 7:55pm Wednesday, Travis Wilmott, 25, was driving a 2000 Ford Focus East along the highway and Eudeen Hield, 69, was driving a 1992 Chevy Cavalier North on Balao when the two vehicles collided, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Wilmott escaped uninjured, but Mrs. Hield and Ms. Laing both sustained injuries and were rushed to the Rand Memorial Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Hield was treated and later released, but Ms. Laing died in hospital at around 9:40p.m, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Michael Cooper, 37, died when the car police said he was speeding in crashed into and uprooted a utility pole in East Grand Bahama.<\/p>\n<p>Just under two weeks ago, a woman and her unborn child were killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in crashed into a tree.<\/p>\n<p>These latest accidents prompted police to urge residents to slow down and drive with due care and attention on the island&#8217;s streets.<\/p>\n<p><small>By: Sharon Williams, The Bahama Journal<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police issue the usual safety warning, nothing else changes to stem road traffic carnage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"rop_custom_images_group":[],"rop_custom_messages_group":[],"rop_publish_now":"initial","rop_publish_now_accounts":{"facebook_10223285771444175_51037792744":""},"rop_publish_now_history":[],"rop_publish_now_status":"pending","footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-247704","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-headlines"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/247704","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=247704"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/247704\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=247704"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=247704"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=247704"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
