{"id":247889,"date":"2005-10-06T12:01:16","date_gmt":"2005-10-06T16:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/10\/bahamians-get-wise-to-fundraising-scams"},"modified":"2005-10-06T12:01:16","modified_gmt":"2005-10-06T16:01:16","slug":"bahamians-get-wise-to-fundraising-scams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2005\/10\/bahamians-get-wise-to-fundraising-scams","title":{"rendered":"Bahamians Get Wise To Fundraising Scams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>Church members and the public in general have snubbed a bid by leading Baptist Rev Neil Ellis to raise $1 million for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita in New Orleans.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Many people felt Ellis needed to raise money for victims of hurricanes in The Bahamas rather than in the U.S. &#8211; easily the world&#8217;s richest country. And they showed their disapproval of the U.S. fundraising drive by Rev Ellis and his close associate, Frankie &#8220;Snake&#8221; Wilson, Chief fundraiser of the PLP.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Ellis bragged that he&#8217;d get the 7,000 members of his Mt Tabor Church to give $1,000 each. And Wilson boasted of raising hundreds of thousand of dollars in a ZNS telethon. <\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>But, Rev Ellis has only collected a total of $17,000 &#8211; $5,000 from Mt Tabor and $12,000 from his 29 &#8220;sister&#8221; churches that are all partners of Full Gospel Church, New Orleans.
