Members of the sporting community were gripped with shock and grief after learning that one of their own had become the victim of a heinous murder following an apparent domestic confrontation. <\/p>\n
News spread like wildfire early Wednesday that softball star, Jackie “Lil Stunt” Moxey, had died in hospital after being brutally attacked Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Police reported that Moxey’s attacker was a male friend and that her injuries were very extensive.<\/p>\n
According to Police Inspector Walter Evans the attack happened in the Clifton Pier area.<\/p>\n
Moxey was taken to hospital where she was said to be on life support until she died early Wednesday.<\/p>\n
As news spread of the tragedy, many persons from various sectors of the community, who were familiar with Moxey’s achievements, expressed sadness over her death.<\/p>\n
“It concerns me that as a means of resolution we have to resort to violence,” Sports Minister Neville Wisdom said during an interview with The Bahama Journal just before learning of Ms. Moxey’s death. <\/p>\n
“The sports world is in a state of shock because someone whom we all love and respect is currently fighting for her life and not as a result of any kind of illness or disease, but because of a violent act against her. <\/p>\n
“And I just want to put out a call to all Bahamians – particularly those in the sporting community – to understand that cooperation always beats confrontation and many of these things could be talked out, as opposed to us resorting to aggressive behavior. This is most unfortunate.” <\/p>\n
Police were yesterday questioning a male in connection with the incident.<\/p>\n
Moxey’s death came only hours after police reported the country’s 43rd murder after discovering the lifeless body of a dark male in a house under construction in the Lyford Cay area sometime around 5pm Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Inspector Evans said the body was not found behind the Lyford Cay gates, but off the road leading to the community.<\/p>\n
“When police arrived, the victim’s hand and feet were tied with duct tape and there was what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head,” Inspector Evans told The Bahama Journal Wednesday. <\/p>\n
“He was dressed in a white t-shirt, a pair of blue jeans and dark colored sandals.”<\/p>\n
Up to press time, the victim’s identity had not been released.<\/p>\n
Police urged anyone with information about this particular incident to call the police at 502-9991, 919 or 328-TIPS.<\/p>\n
Police said investigations into both tragedies were continuing.<\/p>\n
