{"id":248455,"date":"2006-01-03T10:35:52","date_gmt":"2006-01-03T15:35:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/01\/first-traffic-fatality-of-2006-recorded"},"modified":"2006-01-03T10:35:52","modified_gmt":"2006-01-03T15:35:52","slug":"first-traffic-fatality-of-2006-recorded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/01\/first-traffic-fatality-of-2006-recorded","title":{"rendered":"First Traffic Fatality Of 2006 Recorded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first traffic fatality for the year was recorded on Grand Bahama over the weekend when a car driven by a man believed to be in his 60s plunged overboard into a canal, police reported yesterday.  <\/p>\n<p>The accident occurred around 3:10 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Coral Road and Bahama Reef Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>Police said that a female resident was driving her car north along Coral Road when she was &#8220;side swiped&#8221; by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p>The driver told officers that as her car came to a stop she noticed that the vehicle that had hit her had disappeared and she also heard a very loud noise.<\/p>\n<p>When police arrived on the scene, officers noticed a trail of tire marks leading to a fence that had been knocked down and ending at the edge of nearby canal.<\/p>\n<p>A police diver discovered a dark green and grey 1994 Toyota Windom resting on its roof at the bottom of the canal.<\/p>\n<p>A black male, neatly dressed and believed to be in his 60s, was found in the car.<\/p>\n<p>The body was transported to the morgue at the Rand Memorial Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations continue.<\/p>\n<p>  In other crime news: <\/p>\n<p>Grand Bahama police were yesterday trying to determine how a black travel bag containing 30.5 pounds of cocaine with a street value of around $400,000 ended up onboard an American Airlines flight bound for Miami.<\/p>\n<p>Freeport airport police reported that around 8:10 a.m. on New Year&#8217;s Eve, US Customs officers, assisted by a K-9 Unit officer, were conducting a routine pre-departure check of baggage when they noticed the black bag that had been tagged for the flight.<\/p>\n<p>When officers opened the bag they discovered that it contained 13 kilos or 30.5 pounds of cocaine taped in plastic packages.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Bahama Drug Enforcement Unit officers who are now trying to determine how the bag got aboard the aircraft confiscated the unclaimed bag.<\/p>\n<p>The drugs were transported to New Providence aboard an OPBAT helicopter for further investigations.<\/p>\n<p><small>From: The Bahama Journal<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Driver plunges into canal to his death.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"rop_custom_images_group":[],"rop_custom_messages_group":[],"rop_publish_now":"initial","rop_publish_now_accounts":{"facebook_10223285771444175_51037792744":""},"rop_publish_now_history":[],"rop_publish_now_status":"pending","footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-248455","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-headlines"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/248455","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=248455"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/248455\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=248455"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=248455"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=248455"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
