{"id":248506,"date":"2006-01-09T10:35:09","date_gmt":"2006-01-09T15:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/01\/shootout-on-nassaus-cable-beach"},"modified":"2006-01-09T10:35:09","modified_gmt":"2006-01-09T15:35:09","slug":"shootout-on-nassaus-cable-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2006\/01\/shootout-on-nassaus-cable-beach","title":{"rendered":"Shootout on Nassau&#8217;s Cable Beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inspector Walter Evans also said police launched an island-wide manhunt for the second suspect. <\/p>\n<p>Official reports indicate that shortly after 7 o&#8217;clock Saturday night two masked gunmen entered the Cable Beach City Market food store and robbed that establishment of an undetermined amount of cash.<\/p>\n<p>The culprits reportedly escaped in a white Nissan Sentra, however, officers on patrol in the area were alerted to the robbery, observed the vehicle travelling along Skyline Drive, and chased the getaway vehicle, Inspector Evans said. <\/p>\n<p>As the Sentra approached Oak Hill Road, which is located just off Skyline Drive, the occupants reportedly exited the vehicle and fired several gunshots at the officers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was a series of gunfire aimed at the police,&#8221; said Mr. Evans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The police returned fire and one of the two occupants was struck to the left upper back area.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Police reported that the suspect succumbed to the gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The other occupant, Mr. Evans said, was able to escape into the surrounding area on foot.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was described as being of medium build and a dark complexion.
