Opposition Leader Hubert Ingraham took issue with the government-owned Bahamas Broadcasting Corporation for what he deemed to be less than objective reporting at the Grand Bahama FNM Women’s Association Banquet at Old Bahama Bay in West End on Saturday night. <\/P><\/p>\n
Calling the Corporation’s current manner of reporting “biased” and “one-sided,” Mr. Ingraham declared, “It is nauseating, infuriating and irritating. This PLP government ought to be ashamed of itself for permitting or directing ZNS to do as it is doing.” <\/P><\/p>\n
Mr. Ingraham also spoke out on the unemployment in the tourism sector on the island. <\/P><\/p>\n
“I am stunned by their failure to stop the haemorrhaging of jobs in the tourism sector following the damage of the 2004 storm season,” said the opposition leader. <\/P><\/p>\n
Addressing the approximately 150 members present at the event, Mr. Ingraham said that to ensure its success, the Party should not “repeat its mistake of 2002. <\/P><\/p>\n
“We must move forward with confidence \uff96 not over-confidence,” he said. <\/P><\/p>\n
The Opposition leader took the opportunity to list amendments to legislation that discriminated against women in his address that evening. <\/P><\/p>\n
He also praised the G.B. FNM Women’s Association members for their hard work and commitment, charging them to register voters on the island and highlighting the important role of women in the Party. <\/P><\/p>\n
In brief remarks at the event, National FNM Women’s Association President, Caron Shepherd, also urged G.B. members to register voters under the theme, “Em-powered, Ready and Committed on the March to Victory.” <\/P><\/p>\n
Party Chairman, Desmond Bannister, joined its leader and National Association president in this charge during his installation of the G.B. Association’s executives.<\/P><\/p>\n
