A group of men are assisting the police with their investigations into the rape of four women, which occurred over a one-week span in the Carmichael Road area.<\/p>\n
However, Central Detective Unit (CDU) Chief Marvin Dames was reluctant yesterday to release the names, ages and addresses of the men.<\/p>\n
Of the four women raped, one is a police officer. <\/p>\n
According to police information, the first attack occurred over a week ago, when intruders forced their way into a Carmichael Road home and raped two women.<\/p>\n
In the second incident, sometime around five o’clock in the morning last week Tuesday, assailants broke their way into an apartment and sexually assaulted the police officer and her roommate.<\/p>\n
“We have a group of persons in our custody, who are assisting us in our investigations with respect to both matters,” Mr Dames revealed.<\/p>\n
He was of the opinion that the men could face court charges as early as today.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, Mr Dames is cautioning females to be very careful of those persons seeking to become instant friends.<\/p>\n
“As a female, you have to be careful of those persons who try to befriend you. <\/p>\n
“We have had some incidents where persons would have been raped as a result of catching rides with people they don’t know or people they have befriended the night before at a night-club,” he said. “We are asking females to be extremely careful of those persons.”<\/p>\n
He added that statistics have revealed that of most of the rapes that occur, a little more than 50 per cent of the matters involve the victims knowing their attackers. <\/p>\n
Mr Dames is stressing that females should avoid placing themselves in vulnerable positions where they can or would be taken advantage of.<\/p>\n
To homeowners, the high-ranking police officer said, ensure that your houses have the proper lighting.<\/p>\n
“If you can afford an alarm system, good. If you have burglar bars fantastic, more importantly, forge relationships with your neighbours, so that you can organise amongst yourselves a block-watch, and pay attention to your surroundings, so you can look out for one another,” Mr Dames said.<\/p>\n
