All police officers involved in yesterday's court protest should be fired, furious community activists claimed last night.<\/P><\/p>\n
They said if action was not taken immediately, then National Security Minister Cynthia Pratt and Commissioner Paul Farquharson must resign.<\/P><\/p>\n
The protest was attacked as "an act of defiance" against the attorney general and "a threat to the rule of law."<\/P><\/p>\n
And one said: "This is a dangerous day for the Bahamas." Senior college lecturer Felix Bethel, a friend of Deron Bethel's family, and Workers Party leader Rodney Moncur both said the Commissioner "must rein these men in" or face the consequences.<\/P><\/p>\n
"If he doesn't, someone must call for his resignation," said Mr Bethel. He claimed that this was "happening because the police are accustomed to cover-ups."<\/P><\/p>\n
But the attorney general is saying there will be no cover-up and she is being true to her word."<\/P><\/p>\n
For members of a "disciplined force" to act this way was out of order, he said.<\/P><\/p>\n
Mr Moncur supported Mr Bethel's view, saying: "Two things must happen: either Mother Pratt fires the commissioner or she needs to resign.<\/P><\/p>\n
"The police force is the military arm of the state. When they are prepared to protest because the rule of law is being established, we are in trouble.<\/P><\/p>\n
"I am now going to organise a counter protest because the rule of law has to be protected. This is an attempt to prevent justice."<\/P><\/p>\n
The activists claimed the police action was "in direct confrontation with the independence of the attorney general" and all officers involved "should be fired forthwith."<\/P><\/p>\n
