A man wanted by police was shot after breaking into a home at Scrub Hill, Long Island, yesterday afternoon, police reported.<\/p>\n
Police said that around 1:20 p.m. officers were conducting an operation in Scrub Hill when the man broke into the home.<\/p>\n
It is reported that the suspect on seeing the officers, produced a shotgun and was subsequently shot and his weapon confiscated by police. He was taken to the local clinic and later airlifted to New Providence where his condition was unknown, police said.<\/p>\n
A team of officers from the Central Detective Unit will travel to Long Island to assist with the investigation, police added.<\/p>\n
It is the latest in a series of police involved shootings reported this year.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the number of suspects shot dead by police this year jumped to six when police killed a man after a reported attempted armed robbery near Columbus Primary School\u2019s playing field in New Providence.<\/p>\n
One suspect was shot dead by police in March; one in April; one in May; two in June; and one so far in September, according to The Nassau Guardian\u2019s records.<\/p>\n
The Guardian reported back in July that police involved shootings were up 37.5 per- cent for the second quarter of 2012.<\/p>\n
Three suspects were shot by police in February; two in March; one in April; three in May; four in June; five in July and two in August.<\/p>\n
