On his return from campaigning, he contributed his losing the election to the fact that women were not yet able to vote. He felt that most males who were eligible to vote were interested in only material things (primarily alcohol and cash), if one wanted to secure their vote. Thus the idea of the suffrage movement came into being. She later became founder and president of the movement.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-26735\" title=\"georgianna-symonette\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/georgianna-symonette.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"151\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/georgianna-symonette.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/georgianna-symonette-99x150.jpg 99w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/georgianna-symonette-165x250.jpg 165w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 151px) 100vw, 151px\" \/>Recognising the iniquities in voting rights, Mrs. Georgianna Symonette along with Mrs. Mary Ingraham, Mrs. Mabel Walker and Mrs. Eugenia Lockhart and other women started the Women\u2019s Suffrage Movement. In order to sensitise the government of the day that women wanted to vote Ms. Symonette and the other suffragettes toured the entire archipelago and obtained 3,000 signatures.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26736 alignleft\" title=\"mabel-walker\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/mabel-walker.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"151\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/mabel-walker.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/mabel-walker-100x150.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/mabel-walker-167x250.jpg 167w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 151px) 100vw, 151px\" \/>Mrs. Mabel Walker was an activist for the Suffrage Movement in The Bahamas demonstrating with small bands of women for the rights of women. She attended many Women Alliances conferences in England, Ireland, Africa and Italy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-26734 alignright\" title=\"eugenia-lockhart\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/eugenia-lockhart.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"147\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/eugenia-lockhart.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/eugenia-lockhart-166x250.jpg 166w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 147px) 100vw, 147px\" \/>Eugenia Lockhart met with the small group of women to seek the vote for women, she found herself at the forefront of the Women\u2019s Suffrage Movement. She did not seek self-aggrandisement or accolades.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-26732\" title=\"alberta-isaacs\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/alberta-isaacs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/alberta-isaacs.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/alberta-isaacs-101x150.jpg 101w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 149px) 100vw, 149px\" \/>Dissatisfied with the status quo of Women in The Bahamas Dame Albertha Isaacs and many of her contemporaries joined a movement that became a force to be reckoned with globally within the western world.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26733 alignright\" title=\"doris-johnson\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/doris-johnson.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"225\" \/>Dame Doris Johnson joined the Women\u2019s Suffrage Movement after returning home from her studies at the University of Toronto. She led a march to the House of Assembly during which time the women demanded they be given the right to vote.
