{"id":26867,"date":"2012-10-12T09:38:36","date_gmt":"2012-10-12T13:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=26867"},"modified":"2012-10-12T09:38:37","modified_gmt":"2012-10-12T13:38:37","slug":"another-call-for-cleola-hamiltons-resignation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/10\/another-call-for-cleola-hamiltons-resignation","title":{"rendered":"Another Call For Cleola Hamilton\u2019s Resignation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/10\/another-call-for-cleola-hamiltons-resignation-26867.html\/hamilton\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-26869\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26869\" title=\"hamilton\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/hamilton.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/hamilton.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/hamilton-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>A day after Prime Minister Perry Christie and Labour Minister Shane Gibson defended a government MP against claims of a conflict of interest, former Labour Minister Dion Foulkes called for her immediate resignation.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, South Beach MP Cleola Hamilton revealed that while she serves as parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Finance, she is also president of the Bahamas Nurses Union (BNU) and vice president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).<\/p>\n<p>Christie and Gibson said they see no conflict of interest in Hamilton\u2019s position as she is not a member of the Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>However, Foulkes said there should be a clear distinction of trade unions, employers representatives and the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo protect the integrity and stability of the labor movement in The Bahamas, it is absolutely imperative that Cleola Hamilton either resigns as a PLP MP and as a [parliamentary secretary] or she tenders her resignation as president of the nurses union and that of vice president of the TUC,\u201d Foulkes said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrade unionism in The Bahamas is based on the principle of clear and unambiguous independence between union leaders and employers.
