{"id":27417,"date":"2012-10-30T08:39:50","date_gmt":"2012-10-30T12:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=27417"},"modified":"2012-10-30T08:42:28","modified_gmt":"2012-10-30T12:42:28","slug":"cell-license-for-cable-doubtful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/10\/cell-license-for-cable-doubtful","title":{"rendered":"Cell License For Cable Doubtful"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_27422\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27422\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27422\" title=\"dionisio-daguilar\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/dionisio-daguilar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/dionisio-daguilar.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/dionisio-daguilar-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27422\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dionisio D&#8217;Aguilar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A well-known Cable Bahamas shareholder doubts whether the Government would award the company a cellular licence to compete against the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), while giving cautious backing to its $65 million Florida expansion.<\/p>\n<p>Praising the BISX-listed communications provider\u2019s willingness to expand beyond the Bahamas as \u201crefreshing to see\u201d, given that most Bahamian companies tended to look inwards, Dionisio D\u2019Aguilar acknowledged that this market\u2019s relative \u201cmaturity\u201d made such a move almost inevitable.<\/p>\n<p>And the continuing uncertainty over the Christie administration\u2019s communications industry policy, Mr D\u2019Aguilar said, meant Cable Bahamas could not count on its main growth opportunity in this nation &#8211; liberalisation of the cellular\/mobile phone market.<\/p>\n<p>Yet he added that Cable Bahamas\u2019 Board of Directors would have to justify to investors the wisdom in taking on more debt, given that $111.101 million in such liabilities were on its balance sheet at end-March 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The company is proposing to finance the acquisition of Macro Island Cable and NuVu LLC, plus Summit Broadband, from a combination of new and existing bank credit facilities, plus the issuance of ordinary shares to the latter company\u2019s owners and a preference share offering to Bahamian investors.
