Nassau, The Bahamas \u2013 Minister of Education, the Hon. Desmond Bannister, announced the third annual National Careers Awareness Month (NCAM) slated for the month of October. The event will span the duration of the month of October and will feature a variety of events and activities.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made on Monday, October 4 during a press conference held at the Teachers Union Building on East Street. Under the theme, ‘Empowerment, Education, Entrepreneurship, Excellence: The keys to career satisfaction,’ NCAM will expose students to a myriad of career paths. Mr. Bannister said that since embarking upon this initiative, the Department of Education has received excellent reviews from teachers, students and parents.<\/p>\n
“Our graduates face numerous challenges upon leaving school, and it is our hope that this initiative will provide them with an opportunity to make suitable career choices before entering the workforce.”<\/p>\n
Minister Bannister also thanked the NCAM team for their hard work and the many partners for their support of the event.<\/p>\n
“As always we wish to express our gratitude to the many stakeholders whose names you see on the banner behind me,” said Mr. Bannister.<\/p>\n
“We greatly appreciate your commitment in providing our youth with this valuable head start.”<\/p>\n
Also in attendance at the press conference were: Mrs. Elma Garraway, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education;\u00a0 Lionel Sands, Director of Education; Mrs. Zoe Powell, Sr. Education Officer; Frank Comito, President of Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA);\u00a0 David Bain, Public Hospitals Authority;\u00a0 Arnold Dorsette, BAIC and\u00a0 Christopher Russell, Ministry of Environment.<\/p>\n
During National Awareness month, some of the activities scheduled include school based activities to be held October 1 \u2013 29; a teleconference with Grand Bahama, Abaco, Exuma, Eleuthera, Andros and Inagua on October 7 and Speakers circuits for students on the Family Islands beginning October 4.<\/p>\n
The month of activities culminate with the National Careers Fair, which takes place during week five on October 26 \u2013 28 at the Kendal Isaacs Gym.\u00a0 The opening ceremony for the Fair will take place on Wednesday, October 27.<\/p>\n
