{"id":2773,"date":"2010-10-05T08:36:13","date_gmt":"2010-10-05T12:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=2773"},"modified":"2010-10-05T08:36:13","modified_gmt":"2010-10-05T12:36:13","slug":"another-hot-button-for-us-human-trafficking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2010\/10\/another-hot-button-for-us-human-trafficking","title":{"rendered":"Another Hot Button For US &#8211; Human Trafficking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On September 24, 2010 the U.S. Embassy hosted a  teleconference with the State Department Office to Combat and Monitor  Trafficking in Persons, the Department of Homeland Security and the  Government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to discuss efforts to  combat trafficking in persons.<\/p>\n<p>Bahamian government representatives from The Office of the Attorney  General, Ministry of Labour and Social Development, Ministry of Foreign  Affairs, Department of Immigration, and the Royal Bahamas Police Force  attended the dialogue and explored ideas and efforts to address this  scourge of modern slavery.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the teleconference was to share information and best practices in a spirit of cooperation and partnership.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. and Bahamian colleagues discussed concrete ways of strengthening  bilateral engagement to best combat human trafficking, whether it be  forced labor or forced prostitution.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Embassy would like to commend the Government of the  Bahamas for their strong commitment and proactive efforts to address  this important human rights issue.<\/p>\n<p>The Embassy looks forward to exploring joint training opportunities  and technical assistance to increase civil society awareness and enhance  the Bahamian government&#8217;s ability to identify victims and prosecute  traffickers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ignoring concerns about intellectual property rights led to the arrest of the straw vendors.
