{"id":28499,"date":"2012-11-23T07:43:58","date_gmt":"2012-11-23T12:43:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=28499"},"modified":"2012-11-23T07:43:58","modified_gmt":"2012-11-23T12:43:58","slug":"crime-in-jamaica-goes-down-while-crime-in-the-bahamas-increases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/11\/crime-in-jamaica-goes-down-while-crime-in-the-bahamas-increases","title":{"rendered":"Crime in Jamaica Goes Down While Crime in The Bahamas Increases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2012\/11\/crime-in-jamaica-goes-down-while-crime-in-the-bahamas-increases-28499.html\/jamaica_crime3-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28505\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-28505\" title=\"jamaica_crime3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/jamaica_crime31.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/jamaica_crime31.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/jamaica_crime31-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) has reported a 9.56 percent decline in major crimes in the country between January and September this year, relative to the corresponding period last year.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the Institute\u2019s quarterly media briefing at its New Kingston offices on Tuesday, programme director for the PIOJ\u2019s Plan Development Unit, Richard Lumsden, disclosed that some 276 major crimes per 100,000 of the country\u2019s population were committed between January and September this year, as against 305 per 100,000 in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed, however, to a slight increase in the number of recorded murders committed during the period under review, which he said stood at 31 per 100,000, a 1.1 percent increase over the corresponding period in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cThese figures, for the current year, continue the overall downward trend in crime rates that began in June of 2010.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The crime data formed the core key indicators of the security status component of the country\u2019s long-term National Development Plan, Vision 2030 Jamaica.
