Subtropical Storm Otto is not moving much in the Atlantic, and will continue to deliver heavy rains to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and northern Leeward Islands through the day Thursday.<\/p>\n
The storm\u00a0is\u00a0not expected to threaten Florida or the U.S.<\/p>\n
Instead, it will begin a rapid push to the northeast as we move through Friday, and travel across the Atlantic over the weekend.<\/p>\n
At 5 a.m. EDT, the center of subtropical storm Otto was located near latitude 23.6 north, longitude 68.2 west.<\/p>\n
The storm is moving toward the north near 2 mph. A turn toward the northeast and an increase in forward speed is expected by late tonight.<\/p>\n
On the forecast track, Otto should remain well to the east of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. A faster northeastward motion is forecast by late Friday.<\/p>\n
Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph, with higher gusts. Otto could transition into a tropical storm later today, and could become a hurricane over the next 48 hours.<\/p>\n
Winds of 40 mph extend outward up to 105 miles from the center.<\/p>\n
