{"id":29931,"date":"2013-01-07T07:49:03","date_gmt":"2013-01-07T12:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=29931"},"modified":"2013-01-07T08:51:28","modified_gmt":"2013-01-07T13:51:28","slug":"thompson-reinstatement-negotiations-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/01\/thompson-reinstatement-negotiations-continue","title":{"rendered":"Thompson Reinstatement Negotiations Continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-17010 alignleft\" title=\"btc-lime\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/btc-lime.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/btc-lime.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/btc-lime-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The government is working to see how it can quickly resolve ongoing negotiations surrounding Elizabeth Thompson\u2019s reinstatement at BTC, Labour Minister Shane Gibson said.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Thompson was terminated from BTC on October 22 after serving the company for almost five years in the legal department.<\/p>\n<p>She also serves as the vice president of the Bahamas Communications and Public Managers Union.<\/p>\n<p>In the [termination] letter, she said, BTC told her: \u201cAfter due and careful consideration, the company has decided that the continuance of your employment is not in the best interest of the company or consistent with the requirements of the company\u2019s business.<\/p>\n<p>Back in November, the Joint Labour Movement led by Jennifer Isaacs Dotson and Obie Ferguson claimed they would spark a withdrawal of labour if BTC did not agree to discussions with the union.<\/p>\n<p>They are the presidents of the National Congress of Trade Unions of the Bahamas (NCTUB) and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas Trade Union Congress (CBTUC) respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The two represent about 40 unions with an estimated 60,000 workers throughout the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government is involved in ongoing negotiations over Elizabeth Thompson\u2019s reinstatement at BTC.
