{"id":30075,"date":"2013-01-09T19:17:58","date_gmt":"2013-01-10T00:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=30075"},"modified":"2013-01-09T19:36:47","modified_gmt":"2013-01-10T00:36:47","slug":"bahamas-strives-to-increase-stopover-visitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/01\/bahamas-strives-to-increase-stopover-visitors","title":{"rendered":"Bahamas Strives To Increase Stopover Visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/01\/bahamas-strives-for-1-6-to-1-8-million-stopover-visitors-in-2013-30075.html\/tourism\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-30079\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-30079\" title=\"tourism\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/tourism.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/tourism.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/tourism-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>The Bahamas is seeking to attract a greater level of airlift and the overall goal is to increase the number of stopover visitors in 2013 from 1.6 million to 1.8 million, said Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe.<\/p>\n<p>That would surpass the best stopover year of 2008, when there were 1.3 million stopover visitors to the country, said Minister Wilchcombe during the Caribbean Marketplace press conference at Atlantis, Wednesday, January 9, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that negotiations at the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Marketplace would go a long way in setting the pace for this goal.<\/p>\n<p>The CHTA will take place from January 20 to 22, 2013 and several hundred tourism and travel professionals are expected to converge on Nassau and Paradise Island for the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince The Bahamas hosted the 2012 event, we have the distinction of being the only nation to have hosted Marketplace in two consecutive years,\u201d Minister Wilchcombe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is significant because it means that there is something special about the islands of The Bahamas.\u00a0 We have hosted professionals who travelled the world.\u00a0 They have seen and experienced the best in hospitality many times over, and in returning to our shores this year, they are acknowledging that we do things the right way in The Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe take this return as an endorsement of our customer service, our attention to detail, and our ability to simply blow our guests away by providing uniquely Bahamian experiences,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n<p>Director General, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, David Johnson;
