{"id":33704,"date":"2013-03-29T11:21:24","date_gmt":"2013-03-29T15:21:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=33704"},"modified":"2013-03-29T11:22:22","modified_gmt":"2013-03-29T15:22:22","slug":"killer-cops-appeal-denied","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/03\/killer-cops-appeal-denied","title":{"rendered":"Killer Cop&#8217;s Appeal Denied"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/03\/killer-cops-appeal-denied-33704.html\/killer-cop-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-33705\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-33705\" title=\"killer-cop\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/killer-cop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/killer-cop.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/killer-cop-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/killer-cop-250x187.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>Donovan Gardiner, a former police corporal convicted of the manslaughter of Desmond Key, is challenging a Supreme Court decision and his sentencing for the beating death of a man in police custody.<\/p>\n<p>Key, 28, was rushed to the hospital just hours after his June 17, 2007 arrest when Gardiner bashed his skull in with a baseball bat at the Grove Police Station.<\/p>\n<p>Key died at Princess Margaret Hospital from his injuries , seven months later, which were countered by complications caused by pancreatitis.<\/p>\n<p>Gardiner, a 22-year veteran police officer, appeared before the appellate court on Wednesday to appeal his conviction and 10-year sentence.<\/p>\n<p>However, Wayne Munroe, Gardiner&#8217;s lawyer, said he was not ready to proceed with the case, as he just received the transcripts from the trail.<\/p>\n<p>Good excuse.<\/p>\n<p>Munroe filed his skeleton arguments at the court on Tuesday. As a result, the Crown did not have an opportunity to file counter-arguments.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal has now been postponed until May 16.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Which killer cop, you ask?
