{"id":35261,"date":"2013-05-03T09:40:39","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T13:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=35261"},"modified":"2013-05-03T14:45:43","modified_gmt":"2013-05-03T18:45:43","slug":"is-dred-fred-brain-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/05\/is-dred-fred-brain-dead","title":{"rendered":"Is Dred Fred Brain Dead?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-32198\" title=\"fred\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/fred.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/fred.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/fred-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Beleaguered Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell this week lamented the plight of Bahamians who have a lot of money and no where to invest it.<\/p>\n<p>People like web shop boss Sebas Bastian, who Mr Mitchell used as an example, saying that the young CEO of Island Luck is being stifled economically in his own country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You have a young entrepreneur like Sebas Bastian and they have huge amounts of capital in their own country, and their own country will not allow them a legitimate opportunity to invest their monies to grow their wealth,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And this [is] a new generation of Bahamians. We have to fix that, Mr. Speaker.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell is apparently too daft to relaize that Mr Bastian&#8217;s wealth appears to have came from the proceeds of crime&#8230; illegal gambling.<\/p>\n<p>This would be like saying cocaine dealers have no where to invest their money.\u00a0 Poor babies.<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell also questioned why successful Bahamians like Robert Sands of Baha Mar and another veteran hotelier, Russell Miller, were not in charge at hotels in The Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>Ya mussy jokin Fred!<\/p>\n<p>Mr Izmerlian and his Chinese backers have nearly $3\u00a0 billion invested in Baha Mar.\u00a0 They can hire whomever the hell they want to run their company, whether that person is a Bahamian or not.<\/p>\n<p>And Mr Mitchell should get down on his knees every night and thank God that Mr Izmerlian decided to invest that $3 billion in The Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work Permit Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alas, Dred Fred also dismissed concerns from the business community that the government&#8217;s work permit policy will deter foreign investment.<\/p>\n<p>He said local businessmen were &#8220;rowing in the press, saying investors are going to be scared coming to The Bahamas&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell said this is not true.\u00a0 Investors that have spoken to the media say it is true.<\/p>\n<p>Who ya gonna believe?<\/p>\n<p>And, on Tuesday, Minister of State for Investments Khaalis Rolle conceded that the policy will &#8220;certainly&#8221; scare away foreign investors.<\/p>\n<p>Rolle said foreign workers are needed in areas where Bahamians cannot meet the labor demand.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mitchell is a Harvard educated lawyer.\u00a0 He needs to start acting like one and stop pandering to the xenophobes that are ruining this country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Mitchell is a Harvard educated lawyer.
