Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) announced today that a Voice Mail upgrade will \u2018go live\u2019 overnight on Saturday May 18th when the existing BTC Voice-Mail platform transfers to a new and improved one that is more user-friendly, versatile and feature-rich.<\/p>\n
Alphanique Duncombe, BTC Product Development Manager said the Voice-Mail upgrade is one of the final components of the high speed 2G and 4G mobile networks now enjoyed by BTC subscribers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new platform will provide our customers with improved Voice-Mail service with a quicker access method and many additional features including the pre-selection of the preferred Voice-Mail language prompt in either English, Spanish, Mandarin or Creole.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jerome Sawyer BTC Senior Manager, Public Relations said customers may experience some Voice-Mail disruptions overnight on May 18th and they should clear their Voice-Mail boxes before the \u2018switch-over\u2019 as messages may be lost during the transition to the new platform.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe \u2018switch-over\u2019 period is from 11:00 p.m. May 18th until 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning May 19th.\u00a0 To avoid losing important messages, customers are advised to listen to, save and then clear their mobile Voice-Mail boxes before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday evening May 18th, and to expect some disruption in Voice-Mail service during the night.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms. Duncombe said the new system features will be added very soon after the initial \u2018switch-over\u2019 and would give users the option to have their voice mails automatically converted to email, view who left a message, use a call return option, select video voicemails,\u00a0 SMS, call answering and mailbox greetings (busy\/absent, etc.)<\/p>\n

What do I need to do on May 18th and May 19th?<\/p>\n
To avoid losing important messages as a result of the upgrade, listen, save and clear them by May 18th.\u00a0 On or after May 19th to access new voicemail system for the first time, dial *86 or 557-0000.\u00a0 Enter the four digit code 9999 to access your voicemail.\u00a0 Enter a NEW four digit password as your old password will not work.<\/p>\n
Listen for a brief tutorial explaining the brand new menu and options. Your old voice-mail messages may be available for two weeks after the new system comes on line. To check for your old messages, dial *86 or 557-000 and choose option 4.
