{"id":3607,"date":"2010-10-29T08:17:59","date_gmt":"2010-10-29T12:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=3607"},"modified":"2010-10-29T09:56:50","modified_gmt":"2010-10-29T13:56:50","slug":"students-told-tourism-is-everybodys-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2010\/10\/students-told-tourism-is-everybodys-business","title":{"rendered":"Students Told \u2018Tourism Is Everybody\u2019s Business\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nassau, The Bahamas \u2013 Hundreds of students gathered at the Geoffrey Brown Auditorium at Queen&#8217;s College on Monday, October 25 to participate in a one-day conference.<\/p>\n<p>Held under the theme, &#8220;How Strong is Your Parachute&#8230; How Soft Will Your Landing Be\u2026 Will a Commitment to Life-Long Learning Help?,&#8217; the objective of the event was to expose students to the many career opportunities available in the hospitality industry.<\/p>\n<p>The event was a joint-venture among several partners including The Ministry of Education, Johnson &amp; Wales University, Queen&#8217;s College, The Bahamas Hotel Association &amp; Associated Industry and Education Partners. Acting Minister of Education, the Hon. Hubert Minnis, told the students that &#8216;tourism is everybody&#8217;s business.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Remember, tourism is a highly competitive market that demands quality services and products.\u00a0 This in turn demands a trained,\u00a0 skilled workforce.\u00a0 We must understand that the beauty of our islands alone is not enough to keep us the front runner.\u00a0 Rather, the beauty of our islands has to be coupled with quality service and the right attitude.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Minnis said that it is only through preparation and training can one achieve &#8216;the feat of a soft landing.&#8217; &#8220;That kind of preparation and training is ongoing and can be equated to the commitment to lifelong learning that life in the twenty-first century demands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During the conference,\u00a0 presentations were made on several topics including:<br \/>\nHospitality Careers &amp; You; How to find Fulfilment through Education &amp; your Career;\u00a0 How to Manage Relationships;\u00a0 Sports Entertainment &amp; Events Management; and Fashion &amp; Merchandising;<br \/>\nMinister Minnis also thanked the partners for having the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I also commend the Ministry of Education and its partners; Johnson &amp; Wales University (North Miami Campus), the Bahamas Hotel Association, and Queen&#8217;s College.\u00a0\u00a0 Thank you for putting on this event.
