{"id":3668,"date":"2010-11-01T07:19:05","date_gmt":"2010-11-01T11:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=3668"},"modified":"2010-11-01T07:19:05","modified_gmt":"2010-11-01T11:19:05","slug":"plp-no-convention-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2010\/11\/plp-no-convention-this-year","title":{"rendered":"PLP: No Convention This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has voted not to have a national convention this year, The Nassau Guardian has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made last night at the PLP\u2019s monthly National General Council meeting at Gambier House, party sources said.<\/p>\n<p>The party has decided not to hold the convention for financial reasons, The Guardian understands.<\/p>\n<p>The Free National Movement (FNM) has already decided not to\u00a0a convention \u2013 also for financial reasons.<\/p>\n<p>At the FNM\u2019s 2009 convention, Prime Minister and FNM Leader Hubert  Ingraham had indicated the party would meet again this year. However,  before the FNM formally announced it would not have a 2010 convention,  Ingraham explained why he thought the party should not host the event  this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will recommend to the party that we not proceed with the convention  this year,\u201d he said. \u201cApart from having no money to do so, there are  some other reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both parties held conventions in the fall of 2009.
