The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has voted not to have a national convention this year, The Nassau Guardian has confirmed.<\/p>\n
The decision was made last night at the PLP\u2019s monthly National General Council meeting at Gambier House, party sources said.<\/p>\n
The party has decided not to hold the convention for financial reasons, The Guardian understands.<\/p>\n
The Free National Movement (FNM) has already decided not to\u00a0a convention \u2013 also for financial reasons.<\/p>\n
At the FNM\u2019s 2009 convention, Prime Minister and FNM Leader Hubert Ingraham had indicated the party would meet again this year. However, before the FNM formally announced it would not have a 2010 convention, Ingraham explained why he thought the party should not host the event this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will recommend to the party that we not proceed with the convention this year,\u201d he said. \u201cApart from having no money to do so, there are some other reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both parties held conventions in the fall of 2009. It is now likely that each will hold 2011 conventions in the run-up to the next general election.<\/p>\n
