{"id":38421,"date":"2013-08-21T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=38421"},"modified":"2014-08-16T00:33:37","modified_gmt":"2014-08-16T04:33:37","slug":"bahamian-project-kicks-off-year-two-with-more-than-20-photographers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-kicks-off-year-two-with-more-than-20-photographers","title":{"rendered":"Bahamian Project Kicks Off 2nd Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38422\" title=\"Bahamian Project photographers\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-5966-540.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-5966-540.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-5966-540-150x69.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-5966-540-250x115.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A project that started out as one man&#8217;s dream to give back to the community by doing what he does best, fine art photographic portraiture, is set to expand dramatically, growing from a one-man show into an umbrella of more than a dozen photographers spread out throughout The Bahamas to capture the soul and spirit of the nation&#8217;s population.<\/p>\n<p>News of the expansion and plans for the <a title=\"The Bahamian Project\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bahamianproject.com\" target=\"_blank\">Bahamian Project<\/a>, the brainchild of <a title=\"Duke of Nassau - Bahamas Photographer\" href=\"http:\/\/dukeofnassau.com\">Bahamas photographer<\/a> Duke Wells and his wife, Lisa, who recorded and posted the year-long project, came at a press conference today at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-38423\" title=\"Bahamian Project\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-2-5952s.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-2-5952s.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-2-5952s-112x150.jpg 112w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/bahamian-project-2-5952s-187x250.jpg 187w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>&#8220;I am very pleased to say that the response to the first year of the Bahamian Project has been incredibly positive and in our second year, I will be joined by a prestigious group of local photographic artists who have agreed to come on board and spread throughout the islands in their dedication to capture the character of the oh, so many Bahamians whose lives weave the fabric of Bahamian society,&#8221; said Wells.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope to photograph over 100 subjects for the second exhibition which will be held next July at the The Central Bank Gallery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s exhibit, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/07\/governor-general-unveils-the-bahamian-collection-37826.html\">The Bahamian Collection<\/a>,&#8221; was unveiled July 11 at the NAGB as part of the official activities of the 40th Anniversary of Independence. The exhibit was held under the patronage of the Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes and Lady Foulkes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we continue to document the character and preserve the legacy of Bahamians, from all walks of life and throughout all Islands of The Bahamas, we\u2019ll take the show on the road,\u201d Wells said.<\/p>\n<p>The tour will take them to Abaco, Grand Bahama and islands further south as funding permits. Photographers joining the Bahamian Project for the upcoming year include Farreno Ferguson, Ben Jamieson, Donald Knowles, Guilden Gilbert Jr., Heino Schmid, Patrick Robinson, Sabrina Lightbourn, Simon Mott, Kishan Munroe, Rashad Penn, Scharad Lightbourne, James Adderley, Monty Knowles, Vaughn Scriven, Dimitrio Francisco, G. James Collie II, D\u2019Angelo Reid, Lawrence Smith and Lisa Wells.
