{"id":38470,"date":"2013-08-21T09:25:07","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T13:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=38470"},"modified":"2013-08-21T09:36:37","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T13:36:37","slug":"most-schools-below-average","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/08\/most-schools-below-average","title":{"rendered":"Most Schools Below Average"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-38497\" title=\"jerome-fitzgerald\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jerome-fitzgerald.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jerome-fitzgerald.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/jerome-fitzgerald-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Only six schools out of approximately 100 averaged a grade of C+ or above in the Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) exams, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Jerome Fitzgerald revealed.<\/p>\n<p>This includes both public and private schools which sat more than 20 papers.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzgerald explained that each exam counts as one paper.<\/p>\n<p>Only three schools in the nation attained a school grade average of B-.<\/p>\n<p>Another three schools attained a school grade average of C+.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzgerald did not name the six schools or whether they are public or private schools.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Education released results for the 2013 BGCSE exams last Thursday. BGCSE English scores remained at a D letter grade, while math scores fell from E+ to E.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said students who do well in school do so for the most part because of their parents\u2019 vested interest in their education.<\/p>\n<p>He said he is more concerned about some parents\u2019 lack of involvement in their children\u2019s education than recruitment, training, improving leadership skills, capital and human resources investments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8230;There is no doubt, and study after study has shown, that the greatest contributing factor to a child\u2019s educational success is the involvement of the parents in their child\u2019s education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most schools in the Bahamas produced below average grades.
