Thirteen young Bahamians have been awarded scholarships to pursue tourism-related studies thanks to the support of the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association, the Bahamas Hotel Employers Association and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF).\u00a0 This year\u2019s awards were valued at $70,000, making it the largest single year disbursement since 2005, when the organizations renewed the industry\u2019s commitments to scholarship programs.<\/p>\n
Since 2005, 107 scholarships have been awarded valued at $428,000.<\/p>\n
Students were presented with award certificates at BHTA\u2019s recent membership meeting by President Stuart Bowe.\u00a0 \u201cWe applaud our young people for their desire to pursue a career in our dynamic industry.\u00a0 We are pleased to invest in their education knowing that our industry\u2019s success is clearly tied to their future. There are tremendous opportunities available to those who are prepared.\u00a0 \u201d states Bowe.<\/p>\n
The industry raises funds for the scholarships and other education and training initiatives through BHTA\u2019s annual Golf Tournament, their annual online auction, and room donations for auctioning by CHTAEF at the annual New York Times Travel Show.<\/p>\n
This year BHTA will hold its 15th Annual Golf Tournament at the Ocean Club on Sunday, October 6th.\u00a0 Funds raised through sponsorships and golfer registrations will assist with awards to next year\u2019s scholarship recipients.<\/p>\n
