Dozens of students turned out for the second annual Neil Percentie Back to School event hosted by Toastmasters Club 1600 on Saturday, August 24, in Union Village.<\/p>\n

“A model citizen, Percentie always assisted under-privileged school children in the area with much-needed school supplies,” says club president, Franklyn Winder, speaking of the man from whom the event takes its name.<\/p>\n

A known community activist, Percentie possessed a bright future prior to his tragic shooting death back on September 7, 2011.<\/p>\n

For a second year, Club 1600 handed out school supplies and provided free hair cuts from the Mobile Barber Shop during its back to school event.<\/p>\n

The speech club also offered the youths free pony rides, hot dogs and cakes.<\/p>\n

Under a learning tent Toastmasters provided the students with tips on how to have a successful school year.<\/p>\n
