{"id":42044,"date":"2013-10-30T22:04:06","date_gmt":"2013-10-31T02:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=42044"},"modified":"2013-10-30T22:04:06","modified_gmt":"2013-10-31T02:04:06","slug":"btvi-supports-war-heroes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/10\/btvi-supports-war-heroes","title":{"rendered":"BTVI Supports War Heroes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-42045\" title=\"poppies\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/poppies.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/poppies.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/poppies-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/poppies-250x187.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Students, faculty and staff of The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) continue to support worthy causes.\u00a0 They recently threw their support behind the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and now they are supporting World War I and II veterans by purchasing poppies.<\/p>\n<p>The Bahamas has 20 registered World War II veterans and 27 registered widows, and Coordinator of BTVI\u2019s Student Affairs department, Mrs. Raquel Bethel, expressed excitement over BTVI\u2019s willingness to make small donations towards supporting the poppy appeal. \u201cWe are pleased to stand shoulder to shoulder with all those who served in World Wars I and II and encourage the BTVI family to wear their poppies with pride,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Mrs. Bethel noted the importance of becoming educated about the significance of the poppy.\u00a0 \u201cWe are grateful when people support the survivors of both wars and remember the fallen; however, everyone wearing a poppy should know why they\u2019re doing so.\u00a0 We really want to pay homage to those brave soldiers who risked their lives for our freedom.\u00a0 It was really a monumental sacrifice.\u00a0 They literally put country above self, and for that we are indebted to them,\u201d stated Ms. Bethel.<\/p>\n<p>Remembrance Day \u2013 also known as Poppy Day or Veteran\u2019s Day &#8211; is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians particularly during World Wars I and II. It is observed on the 11th November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918.
