Leading Global Voice on Succession Planning to Guide Public-Private Stakeholders Forum<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"Businesses and Government must prepare themselves for unprecedented changes coming to the workforce at the management levels over the next year as a number of major developments undergo massive recruitment campaigns to attract top talent.<\/p>\n

This will be the focus of attention by leading public and private sector stakeholders at the upcoming Corporate Strategies for Leadership and Talent Development Forum set for Thursday, December 5th at the British Colonial Hilton.\u00a0 The forum is part of a national initiative convened by the Bahamas Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA) in collaboration with public and private sector stakeholders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe quality of our people at all levels and in all sectors must be our competitive advantage.\u00a0 Succession planning, management, and leadership development are essential components of every successful company and country development strategy.\u00a0 The forum will draw attention to this and to solutions which can be put in place at the company and country levels\u201d according to BHTA President Stuart Bowe<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that a minimum of 700 new management level positions are needed by the Baha Mar properties.\u00a0 When one factors in the developments which are planned for Grand Bahama and several Family Islands, plus normal attrition which occurs within our existing businesses and Government, employers in virtually every area of the public and private sectors are facing a huge talent gap\u201d states Bowe.<\/p>\n

He stressed that succession planning measures must be put in place now to soften the impact.\u00a0 \u201cAt the same time, we need a collaborative and coordinated national strategy to develop and retain top talent\u201d adds the BHTA President.<\/p>\n

Facilitating a good part of the forum\u2019s sessions will be Norm Smallwood, co-founder and partner with The RBL Group.\u00a0 Smallwood is recognized as one of the top global voices in leadership development.\u00a0 He is an advisor to Fortune 500 companies and nations committed to developing top talent and leadership.\u00a0 He has published hundreds of articles in leading journals and newspapers including the Washington Post, Forbes, and the Financial Times.\u00a0 In 2010, the Harvard Business Review recognized Smallwood as doing \u201cinnovative and ground-breaking work on effective leadership.\u201d\u00a0 His current work relates to increasing business value by building organization, leadership, and people capabilities that measurably impact market value.<\/p>\n

The forum will be outcome driven according to Bowe.\u00a0 \u201cOur intentions are fourfold:\u00a0 (1) to heighten understanding about management and leadership challenges facing most business and government organizations; (2) to learn about successful corporate and government strategies locally and abroad to address leadership voids and succession planning; (3) to identify strategies and action steps which can be put in place now to fill anticipated talent gaps and prepare for the future both at a company level as well as nationally; and (4) to agree to a collaborative public-private sector approach toward top talent development.\u201d<\/p>\n

Attendees will include: CEO\u2019s, Managing Directors, Human Resource Heads, senior management, Government Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and human resource heads from Government.\u00a0 Sector participation is expected from banks, hotels, insurance companies, accounting firms, government, education, retailers, wholesalers and other labour-intensive sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n

Participating stakeholders joining BHTA in the initiative thus far include the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employer\u2019s Confederation, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Labour, the National Congress of Trade Unions, the Inter-American Development Bank, the College of The Bahamas, the National Training Agency, Atlantis, Baha Mar, CFAL and RBC FINCO.<\/p>\n
