{"id":43883,"date":"2013-11-28T00:57:21","date_gmt":"2013-11-28T05:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=43883"},"modified":"2013-12-06T09:39:11","modified_gmt":"2013-12-06T14:39:11","slug":"impressive-turnout-for-kayak-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2013\/11\/impressive-turnout-for-kayak-challenge","title":{"rendered":"Impressive Turnout For Kayak Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43889\" title=\"kayak-challenge\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/kayak-challenge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/kayak-challenge.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/kayak-challenge-150x69.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/kayak-challenge-250x115.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday November 9th, 40 paddlers set out in support of the Abaco Cancer Society and Friends of the Environment in the 3rd Annual Kayak Challenge.\u00a0 Organizers of the event were thrilled with the turnout despite high winds and cloudy skies.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the high winds participants all stuck together and paddled an 8-mile course through the Bight of Old Robinson creek system in south Abaco.\u00a0 While waters were calm in the creeks, paddling through the bay lived up to the \u201cChallenge\u201d in the name of this event.\u00a0 Some paddlers stopped when they arrived at the Bight of Old Robinson, others continued on to Tom Curry Point, and there were 3 intrepid souls who continued paddling on to Pete\u2019s Pub through very choppy seas.<\/p>\n<p>Marjolein Scott, the President of the Abaco Cancer Society, who kayaked the full 8-mile course stated, \u201cThis year\u2019s Kayak Challenge was just that: A Challenge!\u00a0 What an amazing day, ..rough seas, lots of wind and some very determined paddlers.\u00a0 The money raised will go far in helping the Abaco Cancer Society give aid to local cancer patients.\u00a0 A huge thank you to all who came out to support this wonderful annual event!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kristin Williams, the Executive Director of Friends of the Environment, who was in charge of on-shore organization and registration exclaimed \u201cThis is my favorite event of the year! Despite the inclement weather all 40 participants were in the best of spirits both before and after the paddle. Everyone was so excited to be a part of this event.
