{"id":49340,"date":"2014-02-19T08:38:09","date_gmt":"2014-02-19T13:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=49340"},"modified":"2014-02-19T09:05:53","modified_gmt":"2014-02-19T14:05:53","slug":"us-shares-forfeited-assets-with-turks-and-caicos-islands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/02\/us-shares-forfeited-assets-with-turks-and-caicos-islands","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Shares Forfeited Assets With Turks And Caicos Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-49349\" alt=\"us-tci-presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/us-tci-presentation.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"359\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a ceremony at the U.S. Consular Agency, John Dinkelman, Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires, presented the Government of Turks and Caicos with a check for $279,620.32.\u00a0 This money is a percentage of net assets seized in a securities fraud case conducted by the New York Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States.\u00a0 The primary defendant, \u201cSammy\u201d Galasso III, pled guilty in this case and was sentenced to a term of 30 months imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Turks and Caicos Island authorities provided valuable law enforcement assistance leading to the successful forfeiture of these monies and collaborated with the U.S. Government to seize these funds.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, U.S. Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires John Dinkelman noted that the presentation of forfeited assets is just one example of cooperative bilateral efforts between law enforcement agencies representing the United States and the Turks and Caicos Islands.\u00a0 The Charge thanked the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force for strong collaborative partnership with the FBI on investigative matters of mutual interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank those who were involved with this case that dates all the way back to 2001.\u00a0 The Turks and Caicos Islands continue to be a great partner to the United States and it is only fitting that these funds be shared to strengthen efforts to both counter money laundering and terrorism finance while supporting law enforcement and rehabilitation efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to FBI Legal Attache Jeffrey Stanley, \u201cGalasso pled guilty in connection with a post-9-11 scheme to exploit the country\u2019s fears of anthrax attacks for the purpose of manipulating the stock price of a publicly traded company.
