{"id":4964,"date":"2010-12-08T11:01:26","date_gmt":"2010-12-08T16:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=4964"},"modified":"2010-12-08T11:01:26","modified_gmt":"2010-12-08T16:01:26","slug":"police-to-finally-enforce-seatbelt-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2010\/12\/police-to-finally-enforce-seatbelt-laws","title":{"rendered":"Police To Finally Enforce Seatbelt Laws"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting Monday, police will be enforcing the long ignored seatbelts laws, says Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest.<\/p>\n<p>The laws were passed back in March, 2002, but have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wmview.php?ArtID=6942\">never been enforced<\/a>, due to the public&#8217;s refusal to obey them.<\/p>\n<p>All drivers and passengers will be required to use seatbelts or risk fines ranging from $100 up to $500.<\/p>\n<p>Turnquest says the laws will be strictly enforced, but that remains to be seen, considering almost no laws in the Bahamas are strictly enforced.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, police say that as of Monday, drivers not wearing seatbelts will be fined $300. Passengers not wearing seatbelts wwill be fined $100.
