{"id":50015,"date":"2014-02-25T08:57:24","date_gmt":"2014-02-25T13:57:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=50015"},"modified":"2014-02-25T10:23:42","modified_gmt":"2014-02-25T15:23:42","slug":"bahamas-association-receives-pepfar-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/02\/bahamas-association-receives-pepfar-grant","title":{"rendered":"Bahamas Sexual Health and Rights Association Receives PEPFAR Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-50016\" alt=\"pepfar\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/pepfar.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"127\" \/>On February 10, 2014, the U.S. Embassy officially awarded a PEPFAR Small Grant to the Bahamas Family Planning Association.\u00a0 Bahamas Family Planning Association, located in Centerville is a growing and unique Civil Society Organization which recently re-launched as the Bahamas Sexual Health and Rights Association (BaSHRA).\u00a0 BaSHRA\u2019s focus is on implementing a \u201cSafe Space Program\u201d within corporate settings that have a significant amount of staff.<\/p>\n<p>BaSHRA&#8217;s Safe Space Program will use a \u201cDiversity Monitoring and Networking\u201d module to explore policy issues, beliefs and\/or practices within the workplace regarding sexual rights.\u00a0 Current and past experiences within the workplace for those persons living with HIV\/AIDS will also be addressed as it relates to workplace inclusion.\u00a0 Discussions with senior level human resources staff about discrimination on the grounds of gender and race is also part of the monitoring and networking.\u00a0 The overall goal of the module is to ensure equal opportunities and sustain a healthy, productive workforce.\u00a0\u00a0 Through protection of staff, related to lack of inclusion or bullying, all levels of career development.\u00a0 The Safe Space Program theory is that people perform better at work when they are valued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReceiving this grant motivates us to maintain progressive work based on our Safe Space Program goals, which is in line with our affiliate, International Planned Parenthood Federation.\u00a0 This work is part of an institutional development plan for all Member Associations in the Region,\u201d stated BaSHRA Executive Director Kevon Lightbourne.\u00a0 Lightbourne added, \u201cMoreover, we look forward to technical assistance from the U.S. Embassy\u2019s Small Grants, as well as other grant opportunities within BaSHRA\u2019s high-need areas.\u00a0 We are committed to deliver effective and efficient use of all funding opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The President\u2019s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is the cornerstone of the U.S. President\u2019s Global Health Initiative, and the largest commitment in the country\u2019s history towards a single disease.\u00a0 The goal of PEPFAR is to make smart investments that save the greatest number of lives by increasing and building upon what works and, supporting partnering countries as they work to improve the health of their own people.\u00a0 In the Caribbean, PEPFAR, partners with 11 countries and 2 regional bodies to work within National AIDS Programs, along with civil society organizations, under the guidance of the Caribbean Regional Partnership Framework 2010 \u2013 2014.\u00a0 Various U.S. agencies support PEPFAR initiatives, and the PEPFAR Small grants currently range from $2,000 &#8211; $8,000.\u00a0 Requests for proposals are released periodically as funding and capacity allow.<\/p>\n<p>United States Embassy, Nassau<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On February 10, 2014, the U.S. Embassy officially awarded a PEPFAR Small Grant to the Bahamas Family Planning Association.
