{"id":53413,"date":"2014-03-14T09:44:21","date_gmt":"2014-03-14T13:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=53413"},"modified":"2014-03-14T09:47:16","modified_gmt":"2014-03-14T13:47:16","slug":"btvi-continues-to-attract-top-performers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/03\/btvi-continues-to-attract-top-performers","title":{"rendered":"BTVI Continues to Attract Top Performers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-53414\" alt=\"lamaron-sweeting-btvi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/lamaron-sweeting-btvi.jpg\" width=\"325\" height=\"550\" \/>The two highest performing candidates in the 2013 Electrical Installation and Carpentry national exams are seeking to expand their knowledge and hone their skills at The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI).<\/p>\n<p>Lamaron Sweeting, a 2013 graduate of South Andros High was recognized by the government during its annual national examination awards, as having achieved the best results in the Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) Electrical Installation exam.<\/p>\n<p>Oscar Saunders, formerly of Nassau Christian Academy, topped all other candidates nationwide in Carpentry.<\/p>\n<p>Lamaron recently collected his acceptance letter to BTVI and is excited to begin his studies towards an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Installation when summer classes begin on April 28th.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important for me to attend BTVI to further my hands-on skills and to apply it to the world of work,\u201d said the 17-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>During his three-year study of Electrical Installation, under the tutelage of Errol Coke, Lamaron obtained many skills and is able to install receptacles, switches and breakers.\u00a0 He stated that he enjoys manual work and Electrical Installation became his favourite subject.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand it and am able to apply it easily,\u201d said the young man who wants to become an Electrical Engineer.\u00a0 \u201cThe passion I have for the work makes me feel I\u2019m doing it for fun.\u00a0 Time doesn\u2019t matter; at the end of the day, I can see what I\u2019ve done,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-53416\" alt=\"oscar-saunders-btvi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/oscar-saunders-btvi.jpg\" width=\"325\" height=\"550\" \/>Meanwhile, Oscar has already been enrolled at BTVI for two semesters and although he is learning the intricacies of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) he stated that carpentry comes natural to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like things that can be done with the wood \u2013 the many possibilities.\u00a0 I make art out of wood,\u201d said the 19-year-old who has built a computer desk, towel rack, wine rack and car speaker box.<\/p>\n<p>Questioned as to how he achieved the best national results in carpentry, Oscar gave credit to his teacher Carl Curry, but also said, \u201cI put in a little extra than the other guys.\u00a0 It makes a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also offered advice for the 2014 candidates: \u201cHelp others who are doing the exam.\u00a0 You learn in the process.
