{"id":58315,"date":"2014-04-02T09:51:23","date_gmt":"2014-04-02T13:51:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/?p=58315"},"modified":"2014-04-08T07:02:58","modified_gmt":"2014-04-08T11:02:58","slug":"youth-ambassadors-launch-junior-red-cross-program-essay-winners-receive-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/04\/youth-ambassadors-launch-junior-red-cross-program-essay-winners-receive-awards","title":{"rendered":"Youth Ambassadors Launch Junior Red Cross Program &#038; Essay Winners Receive Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-58316\" alt=\"youth-ambassadors-3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/youth-ambassadors-3.jpg\" width=\"550\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-58317\" alt=\"martin-luther-king-contest-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/martin-luther-king-contest-1.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, March 26, Ms. Neda Brown, the United States Embassy\u2019s Public Affairs Officer made an official visit to Grand Bahama to attend the official launch of the re-establishment of Grand Bahama\u2019s Junior Red Cross program during a ceremony at the Pelican Bay Resort.<\/p>\n<p>The project was coordinated by the U.S. Embassy\u2019s Youth Ambassadors who recently represented Grand Bahama in a dynamic 3 week-long youth leadership exchange in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The four youth leaders included Alliqueka Capron from Lucaya International School; Aaliyah Vilbrun from St. Paul\u2019s Methodist College, Kamaal Bartlett, from Tabernacle Baptist Christian Academy and Gabrielle Moss, from Bishop Michael Eldon High School.<\/p>\n<p>Georgette Thompson, a guidance counselor with the Ministry of Education accompanied the students on the trip and currently serves as a mentor to the group.<\/p>\n<p>At the conclusion of the youth exchange program, the youth ambassadors from throughout the Caribbean were challenged to make a difference in their communities by becoming active and engaged citizens through service.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Bahama\u2019 Junior Red Cross Program will be established in several schools throughout the island including High Rock Primary, Martin Town Primary, Holmes Rock Primary, Genesis Academy and at the Eight Mile Rock High School.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-58315 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/04\/youth-ambassadors-launch-junior-red-cross-program-essay-winners-receive-awards\/martin-luther-king-contest-2'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/martin-luther-king-contest-2.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/04\/youth-ambassadors-launch-junior-red-cross-program-essay-winners-receive-awards\/youth-ambassadors-2-2'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"64\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/youth-ambassadors-2.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/2014\/04\/youth-ambassadors-launch-junior-red-cross-program-essay-winners-receive-awards\/youth-ambassadors-1'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"77\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bahamasb2b.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/youth-ambassadors-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>During the event, Ms. Brown also formally recognized two top winners in the U.S. Embassy\u2019s 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest, Gabrielle Moss and Ashlee Hudson along with David Ferguson, who received honorable mention, all students attending Bishop Michael Eldon High School.<\/p>\n<p>School principal, Mrs. Anita Doherty was on hand to celebrate with the students.
