Our Lucaya Resort General Manager Michael Weber said he was unaware of a rumour that the property was preparing to terminate some 50 managerial and supervisory employees, as was claimed by the Bahamas Hotel Managerial Association (BHMA).<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, BHMA president Obie Ferguson told The Freeport News that industrial action could be in the works at that resort.<\/p>\n
Ferguson said the BHMA learned last week that there was a “covert plan” being hatched to let go the workers, who all belong to the union. According to Ferguson, management intended to begin the termination exercise this week.<\/p>\n
“We are advised that they planned these dismissals after they found out that the workers are supporting the union,” Ferguson said.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, Weber addressed the claims.<\/p>\n
“With regard to employees being laid off in the next month, I am unaware of this rumour and it’s the first I have heard of it,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
